Milan

Okay here is the thing about Milan. Its mostly known for its shopping. Fine, luxury shopping.

And it doesn't have much more than that to offer. I tell you that so you can keep it in mind throughout this post.

So Milan.

Daniel W and I left St. Gallen by train on Friday, October 28 at about 2pm. It was about 7pm by the time we made it to Milan.

Eric was nice enough to meet us at the train station. As Daniel W and Eric had never met before, I was a bit nervous. But knowing how sweet and laid-back they both are, it was a silly worry. They got along swimmingly.

That night we went to Eric's dorm to drop our stuff and then went out for some yummy pizza. This meal was followed by a night of hanging out and talking in Eric's room. While drinking 3 bottles of wine. Between the 3 of us. A good night indeed.

So the plan for Saturday:
Wake up and eat breakfast
Go see the Duomo
Go to the train station to get our tickets to Rome
Train it to Rome
Explore Rome

What happened on Saturday:
Wake up and eat breakfast
Go see the Duomo
Go to the train station to get our tickets to Rome
Train it to Rome
Explore Rome

Yeah...we'll get to that last part. First...

The Duomo.

This is like the one thing to see in Milan. [Well thats not entirely true. "The Last Supper" by da Vinci is here too. But getting into see it requires like intense advanced notice to get tickets, because its at a monastery, in their dining room; not at a museum.]

Pretty impressive wouldn't you say.

Largest Cathedral in Italy [4th largest in the world]. Took over 500 years to finish and therefore features many different architectural and artistic styles. Just unbelievably awe-inspiring.

Incredible detail everywhere you look

HUGE

Beautiful and detailed stained glass everywhere you look

So from there we head to the train station to get our tickets and get on our way to Rome. Only to find out that all the tickets to Rome for that day were sold out. Same for the next morning. We wouldn't be able to leave until Sunday at noon. Well, there goes 24 hours!

At first we were all really disappointed.  Which shouldn't be surprising.

But then we went and had a beer and decided to make the most of it. So we went and dropped our stuff at Eric's place and headed back to town.

We went to a castle

Walked through a park

And made our way to the Arch the Milanese people built for Napoleon. If it looks familiar, thats because they copied the Arc de Triomphe.

And then Eric, being a wonderful friend, took me to the "best gelato in Milan." That boy knows me quite well!

After all that we went out for an incredibly good dinner. With all you can eat food.
With our food coma now guaranteed, we headed back to Eric's place for more wine and conversation.
Oh and to watch the Florida-Georgia game. :-(
But I did find this gem in the grocery store by Eric's place

Overall, I would say that we definitely made the best of the situation. But we were all ready to get to Rome the next day! Finally...
